Questions
What parents ask us.
- How is this different from ChatGPT?
- A chatbot answers whatever you put in front of it. Knomi keeps a map of what your child knows and chooses every question from where they are on it. When an answer is wrong, it works out which earlier idea is missing, fixes that, then comes back. The routing is ordinary deterministic code, not the model improvising.
- What does a session look like?
- Your child taps a lit node on their map. One thing on the board at a time: Knomi teaches a piece, they try a piece, out loud if they like. Fifteen or twenty minutes. At the end the map has changed and you get a note saying what moved.
- Does my child have to talk out loud?
- No. Talking is the easiest way to work with Knomi, because it is how you would explain something to a person. But the board takes taps and typing just as well, and plenty of kids switch between the two.
- Do you record or sell my child's voice?
- No. Speech is turned into words so Knomi can understand it, and the recording is then discarded. It is never stored and never sold. What we keep is the maths: which skills were tried and how they went.
- Can I see how it is going?
- Yes, and not as a percentage. You see the same map your child sees: which skills are solid, which are half-there, and which one Knomi is working on now. After each session there is a short note about what was covered and where it got hard.
- What if my child is already behind?
- This is the part Knomi is built for. If Grade 4 rounding keeps falling apart, a Grade 3 place-value gap is usually doing it, and almost nothing goes back to check. Knomi does, fixes the thing underneath, and the thing on top stops being hard.
- What if they bring up something inappropriate?
- Knomi brings the session back to the maths. It does not follow the conversation somewhere else and does not continue anything unsafe. Most children test this once in the first week and then lose interest.
- What subjects and grades does it cover?
- Maths, K through 8, and only maths. Grades 3, 4 and 5 have their full maps built today; the rest open as each map is finished.
